TOM GLOVER
Pottery
High in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Northern New Mexico, potter Tom Glover lives and works. Glover, born in Seymour, Texas, received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from WTA&M University in Canyon. At the urging of his artist mother he enrolled in a ceramics class at Amarillo College. There was an immediate connection between Tom and the clay, and four and a half years later, with a Masters of Fine Art Degree from the University of North Texas in Denton, he returned to teach ceramics at the place he first learned- Amarillo College.
In 1985 Tom left teaching and moved to New Mexico to work as a full-time potter. Teaching full-time was not allowing him the time and concentration to produce his own pieces.
Influenced by Asian and European potters, he works primarily in high fire stoneware and porcelaneous whiteware. Pieces are fired to Cone 10 (2385 degree F) in a 60 cubic foot propane kiln or a 50 cubic foot wood-fired salt kiln. Most of Tom's pieces are utilitarian, and the decoration and high temperature glazes give the pieces a beautiful depth and richness.
